Keep Alachua County Beautiful has an Adopt A Road Program

We should be proud of our community’s roadways, and we want to keep them neat and clean. Groups can adopt a one-mile section of roadway and are then responsible for a minimum of one cleanup every three months. All of the supplies you will need to complete your group’s cleanups will be provided by KACB. Your group’s name will be featured prominently at the beginning and end of the section of the road you adopt

I’ll fill out the Adoption papers soon and get back to you here with relevant information

I contacted the executive director of Keep Alachua County Beautiful, Carlos Gonzalez, on Monday (8/18). He said he’d send me a list of candidate roads we could adopt. It will be a 2-year commitment, 4 times a year.  We need to put up $100 for the two signs that bracket “our road.” No response as of Friday afternoon (8/22). I’ll update with the list of roads when I get it.

I sent out an email today with 4 candidate roads to adopt, with maps.

Here they are.

East University Ave. From NE 55th Blvd(HWY 26) to SE 74th St.

NE 27th Ave. From NE 39th Ave to NE 55th Blvd(HWY 26)

NW 53rd Ave. From NW 34th Blvd to NW 13th St.

SW 61st St. From SW 20th Ave to SW 8th Ave.

Rank-choice your favorites and let me know if you didn’t get the email.

This one is pretty close to where I live. It goes through what I think is a lower income area, which might be good from a diversity/inclusion perspective.
